Below are some frequently asked questions about the Reach Programme. If you cannot find the answer you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Who can apply?

High quality applicants with university or work-place experience, a heart for God, a heart to serve and a heart for the poor should apply. Applicants should be keen to train and develop alongside top quality managers and employees in the charity. (To apply please download an Application Pack.)

When does it run?

The programme starts on 3 September 2012 and finishes on 17 August 2013

Is there any financial support?

Reach Interns are eligible to apply for a bursary of £140 per week for the duration of the programme. If your application is successful, you will be asked whether you would like to apply for the bursary and further details will be given then.

What about accomodation?

CAP provides accommodation in shared houses with other interns. This costs £60 per week including bills (price for 2011/12) and is the option most interns choose. Interns are also free to arrange their own accommodation.

How much contact will I have with clients?

The amount of contact with clients varies depending on your role. Client Services Interns will have daily contact with clients over the phone. Others may have some interaction with clients in their day to day roles. All Interns will visit a CAP Centre, as part of their placement, but please note that Reach is based at Head Office in Bradford.

What is a typical 'Reach Day' like?

The management and leadership training days, known as 'Reach Days', usually consist of two seminars in the morning, covering specific areas of management and leadership and contain both a theoretical and practical element.
The afternoon sessions give you the chance to put the skills you are learning into practice. Afternoon activities can include group fundraising projects, presentations, team competitions and discussions.

Will I be guaranteed a job after the Reach programme?

No. Reach should be viewed as part of your career development, rather than a means to a full-time job. However, a number of former interns are now employed by CAP and found Reach an incredibly useful foundation for full-time work. The Reach programme allows the recruitment team to get to know you, but in the event of a job coming up, your application will be considered alongside external applicants.

Do I get a qualification out of the Reach programme?

No official qualification is gained from Reach, but this allows a greater degree of freedom in the range of sessions offered. The skills developed will all be useful for your future. Former interns say that the Reach Internship looks great on their CV.

Which department will I be placed in?

The application form allows you to specify which department you think you would like to work in. This will be taken into account in your interview and usually one of the managers from the department(s) you specify will be present. Ultimately, the interview team will place you in the department where they feel you will benefit most. General department descriptions can be found on the Streams page. If you would like more details, please email reach@capuk.org.

How do I raise the £3,000?

The fundraising target is seen as an exciting challenge and support is available to help you plan how you will raise the money. There are many fundraising events that you can participate in or you can come up with your own ideas.

What do Reach Interns go on to do after the programme?

Past Reach Interns have gone on to do a variety of things after the Reach programme. Many have stayed on at CAP in various roles, while others have gone to work elsewhere, e.g. at charities like Tearfund, starting their own business, or training in others careers such as law and accountancy.

What about accommodation?

CAP provides accommodation in shared houses with other interns. This costs £60 per week including bills (price for 2010/11) and is the option most interns choose. Interns are also free to arrange their own accommodation.
