Make Your Mark

LEGACIES

Making a Will is a wonderful opportunity to express your life’s priorities – your family, friends, church and the charities you’ve supported throughout your life. A Will is the only way you can be sure your wishes are carried out and your loved ones are provided for after your death.
Leaving a gift to Christians Against Poverty in your Will means you will offer hope and a new life to people in debt, even after your death.

Your gift will give hundreds of families a solution to their financial crisis and debts, which will change their lives forever. They won’t fear the post arriving with bills they can’t pay. They will be able to sleep at night and their health will improve as they are freed from the worry and stress that debt brings. Marriages will be saved and families kept together. Some may receive the gift of eternal life as they come to know Jesus as a result of our work.

Leaving a Legacy now leaves more

The Chancellor has now added an additional tax benefit in the last budget. If you leave 10% or more of your estate to charity then the government will reduce the rate of inheritance tax on your estate by 10%.

Currently, if the value of your estate (all your money, property and assets) is worth more than £325,000 you will be taxed 40% on anything above that threshold. However, the government will now reduce the tax rate to 36% for anyone pledging to give 10% or more of their estate's value to charity.

An example
Jims’ estate is worth £500,000. If he doesn’t leave a gift to charity he will be taxed 40% on £175,000. So he pays £70,000 in tax and has £430,000 to leave to family.

If Jim decides to leave a legacy of £50,000 to charity in his will he will be taxed 36% on £125,000 (the £50,000 gift is not taxable). Jim will pay £45,000 in tax, he will leave £50,000 to charity and his family receive £405,000.

'I cannot express how much CAP’s support means to me and my family. Without CAP I would still be struggling to pay all the debts my husband left, pay our bills and buy food and clothes for my children.

For the first time in two years I’m not worried about what the postman will bring. I’m not scared that the knock on the door will be bailiffs coming to take the furniture. Now thanks to CAP, I pay our debts and our bills every month, we always have food in the cupboards and when my children need clothes I don’t have to miss a bill or debt repayment to buy them.

I hope that you will support CAP by leaving a legacy gift so that more people can be helped to get their lives back on track.'
